Flea Control Is a Lifecycle Problem
Adult fleas are only one stage of the flea lifecycle.
Eggs can fall into carpets and other areas around the home, larvae develop in protected environments and pupae can remain sheltered before emerging later as adult fleas.
That is why flea treatment needs to combine property preparation, environmental treatment and appropriate pet flea control rather than relying on one quick spray.

Vacuuming, cleaning and access to the relevant floor and pet-resting areas help the treatment reach the places where immature flea stages may be present.

Environmental treatment and pet flea control need to work together so newly emerging fleas do not simply continue the cycle.
Why Can Fleas Still Appear After Treatment?
One of the most confusing parts of flea treatment is that newly emerged adult fleas may still appear after the property has been treated.
Pupal stages are relatively protected within the environment and can continue to emerge after treatment.
Movement, warmth and vibration can stimulate emergence, allowing those newly emerged fleas to move across treated areas.
Seeing some activity after treatment does not automatically mean the treatment has failed.
What We Are Looking For
The important thing is whether the overall flea pressure is reducing as the remaining lifecycle stages emerge and contact the treatment.
If activity remains strong or does not reduce as expected, the property may need to be reassessed.
Heavy infestations can take longer to bring under control than light activity.
How to Prepare for Flea Treatment
We provide preparation instructions before the service.
Depending on the property, preparation may include:
- vacuuming carpets, rugs and relevant flooring thoroughly
- vacuuming along skirting boards and furniture edges
- washing pet bedding where appropriate
- clearing relevant floor areas so treatment can be applied
- making rooms and affected areas accessible
- removing or managing pets in accordance with the treatment instructions
Do Not Immediately Wash the Treatment Away
Once the treatment has been completed, follow the instructions we provide about cleaning treated areas.
Excessive washing or cleaning too soon can reduce the residual treatment that needs to remain in place while the remaining flea lifecycle emerges.
We will explain what to do before you re-enter and what cleaning is appropriate afterwards.
What About Fleas on the Pets?
Venatic treats the property environment.
Pets need their own appropriate flea-control program using suitable veterinary or registered products managed by the owner.
If the property is treated but pets continue carrying adult fleas, the infestation can continue cycling between the animal and the environment.

Where Do Fleas Harbour Around a Home?
Flea activity is commonly associated with the places where pets rest, sleep and move through the home.
Relevant environmental areas can include:
- carpets and rugs
- flooring edges and skirting areas
- pet bedding and sleeping locations
- upholstered furniture where pets have access
- protected floor areas beneath furniture
- other areas identified during assessment
The exact treatment scope depends on the property and where the flea activity is occurring.
What If Fleas Are Outside?
Outdoor flea activity can occur in shaded, protected areas where animals rest or spend time.
Whether external treatment is appropriate depends on where the activity is occurring, environmental conditions and the treatment being used.
We assess the relevant areas rather than automatically treating every square metre of the yard.
Need an End of Lease Flea Treatment?
If your property manager or rental provider has specifically requested a flea treatment before you hand the property back, Venatic also provides end-of-lease flea treatment.
The timing is usually slightly different because vacate cleaning, carpet cleaning and other preparation should generally be completed before the treatment.

Why are fleas still appearing after treatment?
Immature flea stages, particularly pupae, can remain protected in the environment and continue to emerge after treatment. Some post-treatment activity can therefore be normal while the remaining lifecycle stages emerge and contact the treated areas.
Do I need to treat my pets as well?
Yes. Environmental treatment and appropriate pet flea control need to work together. Venatic treats the property; pet treatment should be managed separately using suitable veterinary or registered products.
Do I need to vacuum before treatment?
Usually, yes. Thorough vacuuming can help remove some flea stages and makes relevant flooring areas more accessible for treatment. We provide the preparation instructions before attendance.
Should I vacuum after treatment?
Follow the instructions supplied for the treatment. Vacuuming can help stimulate flea emergence, but excessive cleaning or washing of treated surfaces too soon can reduce residual performance.
Will one flea treatment be enough?
Many infestations respond well to correct preparation, environmental treatment and suitable pet flea control. Heavy infestations or continuing sources of fleas may require reassessment.
How long does flea treatment take to work?
Adult activity can begin reducing after treatment, but the flea lifecycle means newly emerged fleas may continue to appear for a period afterwards. The exact timeframe varies with the level of infestation and environmental conditions.
Do I need to leave the house during treatment?
Access and re-entry requirements depend on the areas and products being used. We provide the relevant instructions before treatment.
