Individual wasps flying around a property are usually only part of the picture.
The more useful questions are:
- what type of wasp is present?
- where are they travelling to and from?
- is there a visible nest?
- is the nest concealed inside a wall, roof or other structure?
- can it be accessed safely?
The answers help determine the most appropriate treatment method.

We consider the species and behaviour because paper wasps, European wasps and bee activity should not automatically be managed in the same way.
2. Locate
Flight paths, entry points and visible nest structure can help establish where the source of the activity is located.
3. Treat
The treatment is selected to suit the species, nest location, access and surrounding risks rather than applying the same method to every job.
Paper Wasps and European Wasps Are Different Problems
Paper wasps commonly build exposed comb-like nests beneath eaves, verandahs, fences, sheds and other sheltered structures.
European wasps often establish larger concealed nests in the ground, wall cavities, roof spaces or other protected locations.
The treatment approach changes depending on which wasp is involved and whether the nest itself can be reached.
Common Signs to Look For
What Should You Do If You Find a Wasp Nest?
Keep people and pets away from the immediate area where practical and avoid striking, spraying or otherwise disturbing the nest.
Wasps can become defensive when the nest is threatened.
If you can safely take a photo from a distance, that can sometimes help us understand what type of activity is present before attendance.
Do Not Block an Active Entrance
If wasps are entering a wall cavity, roof space or other concealed nest, do not seal the opening while the colony is active.
Blocking the normal entrance can force wasps to search for another route and may increase activity elsewhere in the building.
Have the activity assessed first.
The Treatment Depends on the Nest
Accessible Nest
Where a nest can be safely accessed, direct treatment may be the most appropriate option.
Concealed Nest
Wall cavities, roof spaces and hidden nests may require treatment through the active entrance or another appropriate access point.
European Wasp Activity
Where appropriate, specialist baiting or another targeted management strategy may be considered when the nest cannot be readily accessed.
What If They Are Bees?
If you are dealing with a bee swarm or bees entering a structure, give us a call before assuming insecticide treatment is the right answer.
Depending on the species, location and circumstances, relocation, beekeeper involvement or another specialist response may be more appropriate.
We do not promise that every bee swarm or hive should be treated as a normal wasp job.

How Quickly Will Wasp Activity Stop?
Some exposed nests can become inactive relatively quickly after treatment.
Concealed nests, large European wasp colonies and situations where returning foragers remain outside the nest can take longer.
We do not promise the same exact timeframe for every property.
What Matters Afterwards
The important thing is whether the overall flight activity is reducing and the nest is becoming inactive.
If strong activity continues beyond the expected period for the treatment used, the nest may need to be reassessed.

Do you treat bees?
Bee activity is considered separately. Depending on the species, location and situation, treatment, relocation or referral to a beekeeper or another specialist may be more appropriate.
How quickly will the wasps disappear?
It depends on the species, nest size, location and treatment method. Some activity can continue for a period after treatment while returning wasps encounter the treated nest or entry area.
Can I remove the nest myself?
Disturbing an active nest can cause defensive behaviour. If the nest is active or located in a difficult area, professional assessment is the safer option.
